Extra-curricular work experience offered to students to enhance soft skills in the workplace and team building

The School of Computing and Digital Media at London Met designed and hosted a hackathon last year, with the aim of reaching impactful solutions and enabling inspiring collaborations.
The 2024 Hackathon at London Met was a resounding success – a celebration of creativity, innovation, and teamwork. The event brought together bright minds from diverse disciplines to tackle real-world challenges, creating an electrifying atmosphere of collaboration and discovery.
Guided by the expertise and vision of three transformative founders, participants were challenged to reimagine the boundaries of technology and its application in sustainability, workplace dynamics, and entrepreneurial collaboration.
Dr Sandra Fernando, Associate Teaching Professor at London Met, commented: “Launching our first real-world Hackathon in 2024 with FounderMatcha and its associated startups was an incredible experience. This event provided paid IT job opportunities for students, highlighting the importance of nurturing and recognising our talented student body. The excitement generated by the event was truly priceless.
She added: “It was refreshing for our students to work outside the structured modules, challenging them to be innovative. The best part was meeting passionate students and networking opportunities with amazing startups.â€
Celebrating student ingenuity and innovation
Over an adrenaline-fueled weekend, students showcased extraordinary talent and determination while they worked tirelessly to ideate, prototype, and present groundbreaking solutions.
London Met would like to congratulate all participants – the students involved brought their A-game, and the results speak for themselves.
The projects on display featured innovative designs, seamless teamwork, and bold ideas that tackled the founders' challenges with remarkable creativity. Navigating the complexities of privacy-first AI systems, sustainable practices, and hybrid workplace dynamics, the teams demonstrated the power of teamwork and a deep commitment to creating meaningful change.
